Whole School, Strategic Approach to Literacy
A Whole School Strategic Approach
At Bayside Voice Centre we see the benefits of a strategic, whole school approach to language and literacy being the following:
- Improving student outcomes through whole school strategic support of Multitiered Support Systems (universal, focussed, intensive),
- Improving in areas of literacy (synthetic structured phonics for reading and spelling), comprehension, (oral and written expression), vocabulary (multi-linguistic word study), behaviour (social and explanation skills), and inclusion (differentiation, adjustments for NCCD/AARA).
- Considerating the cultural and linguistic diversity, ability, and diagnoses of all students.
- Building capability within leadership and professional learning teams in large/small groups, and face-face/online formats for all curriculum teams.

Innovative Projects To Embed New Research Into Real-world Pactices
Over her 20 + years of clinical and educational experience, Jenny has continually been involved with developing ways to embed evidence-based research into real-world practices. Here are a few.
2024-25: Co-construction of a story that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for adolescent students. The story reflects narrative features, that when used as a retell task, may assist identification of students with a language disorder versus language difference.
2023-24: Project co-coordinator for the ‘Effective Teaching of Reading’ collaborative inquiry of 65 South-East Region, primary and secondary schools. This involved developing staff capability with and improving student outcomes through change management of multiple systems of support, literacy strategy, language inclusion, and the Australian Curriculum V9 (insert link).
2021: Lead project officer for a secondary school-based ‘Action Research Project of Current Behaviour Interviewing Techniques’ to improve alignment with Human Rights, Student Voice and research recommendations.
2018: Co-developer of the “Education Queensland (2018), STRIVE into Secondary”. A resource for the explicit instruction of sophisticated vocabulary required for the Australian Curriculum.
2015: Co-author of the “Education Queensland (2015), South-East Region Review of Speech Language Therapy Services (SLT) in the Secondary Setting” to ensure efficient, effective and evidence-based services.
2006-08: Co-developer of the “Education Queensland (2006) PrepTalk Project”. Application of the “Education Queensland (2007b) StoryTalk: Language Program Organiser” and “Education Queensland (2007c) PrepTalk Outcomes Project” following introduction of the Preparatory Year to Queensland State Schools.
