Voice Training For Teachers

Teachers rely on their voices to teach their students, provide instruction and manage the classroom environment.  Yet voice training for teachers is often overlooked in teacher education.

We believe that voice training for teachers is essential to providing a safe working environment.  Teachers need to understand the basic anatomy and physiology of voice and how voice is produced to be in a position to care for their voice and identify potential concerns.

At Bayside Voice Centre, we provide voice training workshops to ensure staff and employees understand their voice, how to use it well and how to protect and care for it.  We also provide screening questions to identify possible employees who may be having trouble with their voice.

It’s important to know that if you are concerned about your voice, it is much better to seek help early.  A voice that is strained or damaged does not have to be ‘part of the job’.  You can learn strategies and techniques to use your voice in a way that is not damaging and that will allow you to have a strong, enduring voice to see you through the days, weeks and terms.

If your workplace does not provide adequate voice training for teachers, or other professionals, or you are in a remote location, you can always arrange Telehealth appointments with our Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, Jenny Matthews.

Optimise Your Voice

The best voice care for teachers by a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

In addition to this, we recommend the Vocie Care For Teachers DVD education program.  The program is written and produced by speech pathologists Dr. Alison Russell (Adelaide), Dr Jenni Oates (Melbourne) and Cecilia Pemberton (Sydney).  This program includes the following:

  • simple explanations of the anatomy and physiology of voice production
  • factors that affect the voice
  • signs and symptoms of voice problems
  • how to get help if you feel you have a problem
  • voice care techniques
  • classroom strategies to help teachers care for their voice

Numerous interviews with speech pathologists and teachers are included in the DVD program, providing insights into the practical application of voice training for teachers and what that looks like in the classroom and beyond.
